LOS ANGELES >> The annual “Clear the Shelters” animal-adoption event will be held Saturday, with fees reduced in hopes of finding homes for hundreds of Southern California dogs and cats.

Sponsored by NBC4 and Telemundo 52, the campaign involves more than 60 animal shelters and rescue organizations that will slash adoption fees to $20 for the day.

The stations have been pushing the campaign for about a month, working to raise awareness of spaying/neutering and the benefits of microchipping.

“Last year’s success resulted in more than 8,200 animals finding forever homes locally and we’re thrilled to continue the effort to help many more homeless animals,” NBC4 President/General Manager Steve Carlston said. “NBC4 is proud to help make such an impact for this important cause.”

VCA Animal Hospitals will also have teams at shelters to offer a “limited health guarantee” and a certificate for a free first exam for newly adopted pets.
