HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 1 (ACN) The XXX international meeting of ballet academies will be held in Havana on April 11 to 20 and dedicated to both its founder Ramona de Saa Bello and the centenary of Cuban filmmaker Alfredo Guevara.
So far, 30 academies from the Americas and Europe have confirmed their presence in the event, bound to gather more than 300 participants, including teachers, students and dancers from countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Portugal, Chile and Venezuela, among others, who will discuss academic aspects and share views on techniques, styles, training programs and choreographic creation based on national and international experiences.
The conference is also expected to host academic discussions on the teaching methods of the Cuban ballet school and the main problems facing ballet schools in other countries, as well as public performances across the city.
Elizabeth Castro Rodriguez, director of the National Center of Art Schools (CNEArt), pointed out that this international meeting reinforces Cuban ballet traditions from a critical perspective detached from colonizing influences and based on the particular features of the island’s social context.
