DefExpo to now be held in Gandhinagar from Oct 18-22
NEW DELHI: India’s flagship exhibition DefExpo on land, naval and homeland security systems, which was earlier postponed in wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, will now be held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat from October 18 to 22.
The 12th edition of the DefExpo was deferred just a few days before it was slated to kick off at Gandhinagar from March 10 to 14, sending shock waves among foreign and domestic companies who had made all the arrangements for it.

With Russia being a major participant in such exhibitions, the decision to defer the DefExpo was taken after some ministerial and official delegations and a few companies from western countries had begun to pull out from the biennial event, as was then reported by TOI.
Announcing the new dates on Monday, the defence ministry said the DefExpo will witness three business days, followed by two public days. It will be held in a three-venue format at the Helipad Exhibition Centre, Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre, and the Sabarmati River Front.
“It was postponed in March (around 1,000 companies and over 50 official delegations had confirmed their presence at that time) due to logistical problems being faced by the participants,” a MoD official said.
“The DefExpo-2022 is in line with the vision of PM Narendra Modi to achieve self-reliance in defence and achieve export of $5 billion by 2025. India has successfully established itself as an emerging defence manufacturing hub with numerous international orders being bagged by Indian companies in recent years,” he said.
Live demonstrations showcasing the equipment and skill set of the armed forces, defence PSUs and the domestic industry will be held on all five days at the Sabarmati River Front, he added.
