American Idol alum Kellie Pickler suffered a huge personal loss in 2023 when her husband committed suicide in their home. She is still locked in a bitter battle with her late husband’s parents two years after his death.

Her Husband’s Shocking Death
Kellie Pickler met her future husband, songwriter Kyle Jacobs, a few years after competing on Season 5 of American Idol. She came in sixth place on the singing competition, but was able to harness her short time on the show into a successful music career. She also competed on Season 16 of Dancing With The Stars. Kellie Pickler took home the Mirror Ball trophy with dance partner Derek Hough.
She married Jacobs in 2011. They were married for over a decade but never had kids. It was reported on February 17, 2023, that her husband had died. It was later revealed that he killed himself in their home. He was 49. The “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You” singer was home at the time but was sleeping. Unfortunately, she was the one who found her husband’s body.
As his wife, Kellie Pickler could have been the administrator of her late husband’s estate. However, she declined and his parents accepted the role. Unfortunately, that has led to major problems that are currently being battled out in a court of law.
Why Kellie Pickler Is Fighting With Former In-Laws
Kylie Jacobs’ parents claim that Kellie Pickler refuses to hand over property belonging to their son. While they were able to get some of his belongings from the home he shared with Pickler, they want more.
According to In Touch, Kellie’s in-laws want their son’s gun collection and other items, such as a Gibson guitar and piano. However, Kellie Pickler claims these belongings are now her property or in some cases, she doesn’t know where they are.

In her latest move, she added another attorney to her team of lawyers. In Touch was the first to report that the singer hired lawyer John I. Harris from the law firm Schulman, LeRoy & Bennett. The outlet notes that the lawyer specializes in probate and particularly “handles cases involving firearms and explosive laws.”
The legal eagle joins Kellie Pickler’s other attorneys, William Harbison, Lisa Helton and Andrea Sinclair. The significance of the new lawyer specializing in cases involving firearms is unclear. However, Kyle Jacobs’ parents want the return of their son’s gun collection, which includes three rifles, seven pistols and one shotgun. They also want their son’s swords, including his Samurai Japanese sword.
Grief can do strange things to people. Hopefully Kellie Pickler and her former in-laws can come to a resolution soon.
