A delegation from Turkmenistan visited the Republic of Uzbekistan for the purpose of exchanging experience and improving the qualifications of young specialists in the field of seismology.
The visit was organized within the framework of the project "Strengthening National Capacity of Turkmenistan for Seismic Risk Assessment, Prevention and Response to Potential Earthquakes," implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.
Members of the delegation visited the Tashkent Seismic Observatory, where they discussed the possibilities of implementing automated systems for recording and processing earthquake data.
At the Seismic Forecast Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan, an exchange of experience took place regarding the application of methods for forecasting seismic activity and rapid response to emergencies.
As a result of the visit, an agreement was reached to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the G.A. Mavlyanov Institute of Seismology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan for conducting joint research on the nature of earthquakes.
Among the promising plans for cooperation are the organization of internships for young specialists, as well as the holding of scientific conferences.
